Websites developed for the United Nations Population Division

(4) http://esa.un.org/unpd/ppp/index.htm
This website of the United Nations Population Division presents the results of probabilistic population projections prepared by the Division's Population Estimates and Projections Section. The projections are based on the demographic estimates of the 2010 Revision of the World Population Prospects and include probabilistic projections of total fertility and life expectancy at birth. I developed the first version of this website during my tenure as Chief of the Population Estimates and Projections Section at the United Nations Population Division.

(2) http://esa.un.org/unpd/wpp/index.htm

This is the website of the "World Population Prospects". These population estimates and projections are prepared biennially by the United Nations Population Division. I developed the first version of this website during my tenure as Chief of the Population Estimates and Projections Section at the United Nations Population Division.

(3) http://esa.un.org/unpd/wup/index.htm
This is the w
ebsite of the "World Urbanization Prospects". These estimates and projections of urban and rural areas, as well as urban agglomerations, are prepared biennially by the United Nations Population Division. I developed the first version of this website during my tenure as Chief of the Population Estimates and Projections Section at the United Nations Population Division.

Research websites

(1) www.demographics.at [New]
I am developing this website as a private project. Its aim is to promote a better understanding of global demographic change.

(5) www.china-profile.com
This website has facts & figures, a chronology of key events since 1949, and other resources for anyone who is seriously interested in China. The website also provides short reviews of more than 200 books on China. I developed the site in order to organize some of the research material I have collected.

(6) www.china-food-security.org
Can China Feed Itself? A System for Evaluation of Policy Options
This site provides the results or research carried out at the "Land-use Land-cover Change Project" of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). I developed the site during my tenure as Senior Research Scholar at IIASA.

Commercial websites

(7) www.addictivebooks.com
This website provides short reviews of crime fiction books and thrillers. As a compulsive reader of (almost) everything I get my hands on, I have used thrillers and crime fiction to keep me entertained during long intercontinental flights and daily train commutes. This website has short reviews and (Amazon) links to some of the very best thrillers of all time. There are links to little-known thriller "gems" from foreign countries, including Japan, Australia, Iceland, Israel, Algeria - and, of course, Scandinavia. (I had recommended "The girl with the dragon tattoo" long before the book became a bestseller in the US.)

(8) www.nonaa.org
A website for no-nonsense answers and advice.
I started this website for my daughter, when I was working in New York, while she was studying in the UK. It is a kaleidoscope of things I find interesting or important and want to share with her. The site also includes some of the answers I have given to her questions when she grew up. It also has the most honest advice I am able to give. The site is my version of a blog (because I never really understood Facebook or Twitter).
